Sharing the joy at Christmas
Schools, churches and youth groups have joined forces to share the joy of Christmas with those less fortunate this year.
Participating in Toys ‘n’ Tucker, many have knocked on hundreds of doors to collect much needed toys and food for the Christmas fundraising campaign. Others have organised musical events, pestered their parents and raided supermarket shelves to give others a joyful Christmas.
ANGLICARE’s Toys ‘n’ Tucker is an annual event designed to share some Christmas cheer with thousands of struggling families in Sydney and the Illawarra. For more than ten years the campaign has collected warehouses full of toys and food to be packed into hampers and delivered by Christmas to families who would otherwise go without.
“Every year our emergency relief programs throughout Sydney and the Illawarra care for thousands of people in need with food and financial assistance,” explains ANGLICARE CEO Grant Millard.
“Participating in Toys ‘n’ Tucker is just one way we can support these families over Christmas with something they wouldn’t otherwise get themselves. We can also encourage them by letting them know there are many in our community who wish the best for them and do care for their welfare.”
Last year ANGLICARE Sydney distributed toys to more than 3,400 children and provided Christmas hampers to almost 1,400 families. There were 345 collection points with schools, churches, businesses and local politicians and a total of 316 volunteers worked 1,896 hours to collect, sort, pack and deliver the hampers for families by Christmas day.
This year ANGLICARE will attempt to individually pack and deliver Christmas hampers and toys for thousands of people in Sydney and Wollongong and collect further goods to support their programs throughout the new year.
