Extent of community need
Mental health needs in our community are significant. In 2007 the Australian Government’s National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing found that every year 1 in 5 Australians will experience mental illness of some kind.
However, only about one third of these people will actually seek help – so it is important to develop a culture of support that helps people identify their needs and seek help without fear of stigma.
