A Love that Holds

Love. What is there not to love about love? It’s the thread that runs through every conversation I have with our donors — why you give, why you stay, why you care. This edition of Care News celebrates love in its deepest form, as we also commemorate 170 years of Anglicare.

We are living through a season of rapid and often unsettling change. “Unprecedented” has become the new buzzword, and many have accepted anxiety as a way of life. Costs are rising, technology is shifting faster than we can keep up, and communities are feeling the strain. For some, life feels precarious — one crisis away from tipping over.

And yet, in the midst of this uncertainty, when we need reassurance that things are not completely out of control, one truth remains unshaken: God’s love endures forever. Psalm 136 returns to this refrain twenty-six times — his steadfast love endures forever — like a heartbeat running underneath every story of God’s

faithfulness. While the world around us feels unpredictable, God’s character is not. His love is constant, faithful, and deeply present — like stillness beneath a stormy ocean.

At Anglicare, we see this love expressed every day. Food on a table. Counselling for a family in crisis. A chaplain at a hospital bedside. Warmth for someone sleeping rough. How we help has changed over time, but our reason has not: we love because he first loved us.
